Dr. Thomas L. Brown, Ph.D.

Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Brown is the Founder of Apoptrol, LLC and has served as the company’s President since its inception in January 2007. Dr. Brown is a tenured Associate Professor and has expertise in cell biology, small molecule drug development, and apoptotic analysis. Dr. Brown first identified Q-VD-OPh in 2001 and this subsequently led to the seminal publication on this compound in 2003. Dr. Brown has a scientific background of more than 22 yrs in cell, molecular, and reproductive biology and 13 yrs of management and administrative experience. He is currently an Editorial Board member for the American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology and The Open Stem Cell Journal, has served on national and regional grant review panels, including NIH and NSF, and has numerous peer reviewed publications. Dr. Brown has served as a scientific consultant for eight major companies and is also the Director of the Laboratory of Cell Death, Differentiation and Development at the Boonshoft School of Medicine. He was named University Entrepreneur in 2007. His success in the scientific and administrative arenas is highlighted by a continual tradition of excellence and international recognition of his work.

 

Dr. Eugene P. Hern, Ph.D.

Chief Operating Officer

Dr. Hern has served as COO since Apoptrol’s incorporation in January, 2007 and took the lead in its incorporation. He was recruited as a founding partner in Apoptrol shortly after his retirement from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) at Wright State University as the Senior Associate Director. His primary role at Apoptrol is managerial, including all phases of project budgeting, research administration, personnel management grant/contract negotiation, compliance, and grants/contract management. Dr. Hern has both a scientific and administrative background comprised of 18 years of biochemical/molecular biology research, including at the NIH, and 20 years experience at the administrative level. His research tenure resulted in many peer-reviewed publications. Success at integrating both personnel and administrative duties is underscored through his history of outstanding evaluations and promotions received during his scientific and administrative career.

 

Dr. David R. Cool, Ph.D.

Vice President of Quality Control & Proteomics

Dr. Cool has served as VP-QCP since Apoptrol’s incorporation in January, 2007. He was recruited as a founding partner in Apoptrol for his analytical expertise in analyzing small small molecules using HPLC and mass spectrometry. His primary role at Apoptrol is to manage end-stage product purification and verify purity. Dr. Cool has a scientific and management background comprised of 18 years of biochemical and molecular biology research, including a postdoctoral fellowship at the NIH. He is currently the Director of the Proteome Analysis Laboratory at the Boonshoft School of Medicine. During the past 5 years, Dr. Cool has built a cutting-edge research facility for high-resolution mass spectrometry and proteomic analysis. His success in developing the proteome analysis laboratory as well as integrating both personnel and administrative duties highlights his history of outstanding achievements.
